About Volunteering

Word and Action is in constant search for dedicated and compassionate volunteers to help in our different programs. Our demographic includes children from 3-18 years of age. W&A Volunteers play a very important role in creating a safe and soothing environment for children to receive services.

W&A Volunteers

Our volunteers range from 18-80 years of age. They are carefully screened for the position for which they apply. They are talented and creative in their interactions with children, staff, community members and peers. They play very rewarding roles as advocate and mentors to children. W&A provides community hours for those who qualified. W&A Volunteers are also recognized during our special events, especially the W&A Volunteer Appreciation Dinner.

Hours of Operation

Volunteer hours are flexible. The center’s hours of operation are from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm Monday through Thursday and 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Friday.

Application Process

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. No prior experience working with children is required. Volunteers are required to be interviewed, completed application, trained, drug screened and committed for three-month in order to be considered. In addition, the application process involves background checks, personal references, and finger printing.

If an accommodation is needed in order to participate in the application process, please contact our Interim Volunteer and Human Resource Coordinator. For additional information about volunteering, please contact us at info@wordandaction.org.

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Special Events

Volunteers help with a variety of different duties before and during special annual events, such as preparing the materials, picking up donations and making deliveries, organizing the day of the event, registration of guests, preparing displays, welcoming guests, etc. W&A’s signature fundraising events, including UnMasked Celebration, Healing Hearts Gala, and Silent Cries Haiti Gala are some of the great assignments available for our volunteers.

  • Travel Overseas

Word and Action is not registered as an international organization. However, because child sexual abuse is a global issue, W&A aims at sharing its vision and services internationally through partnership with its sister organization, Word and Action for Haiti. Therefore, volunteers have great opportunities to get involved in our International Mission Trips.
